World Design Capital Valencia 2022 | The city of Valencia and, in general, the Valencian Community, is a land of creativity. The work of professional designers, architects, interior designers and illustrators over the last century shows a design culture that extends throughout the whole region.

Valencia World Design Capital 2022 is working to promote its activity and to highlight the quality of this creative sector, making it the main agent for social change and urban innovation. The aim is to generate a whole series of initiatives that will project design beyond 2022, generating a legacy that will transcend and become established as a key value of local and national social fabric.

EXHIBITION | Bruno Munari

18FEB- 22MAY

First retrospective dedicated in Spain to Bruno Munari (Milan, 1907-1998) and the most complete exhibition to date outside of Italy on this multidisciplinary artist, especially known for being one of the most important figures in design and visual communication of the 20th century. . Munari sought the essence of art and design in the balance between rigor and lightness, always making use of play, humor and irony. This kind of “Bruno Munari group show” (as he titled one of his exhibitions) includes paintings, drawings and sculptures –works of two and three dimensions, as the artist used to refer to them–, projections and light plays, pieces of graphic and industrial design, typographic and written exercises and children’s books, among other works.

The selection ranges from his first works linked to futurism and graphic design and to his latest experiments in the nineties. The exhibition and the publication that accompanies it are organized into areas built around the methodological concepts essential to Munari’s work – time, method, lightness, experimentation or contemplation – in which nearly three hundred works from from private collections and public and private institutions.

EXHIBITION | ‘’Through post-truth’’ by Pepe Gimeno

 25FEB-29 MAY

Gimeno represents the best values of a whole generation of designers, the fundamental legacy of Spanish design. His professional profile is remarkable since he was one of the first and most important ambassadors of Spanish design in the world, thanks to the rigour of his creative thinking. Through his latest works, the exhibition shows the long and prolific professional and artistic career, lasting almost five decades, of this Valencian creator. Remaining relevant, standing aside from fashion and social changes, and not forgetting his vocation for typographic design and typography, one of his best-known identifying features. Using typography as a tool, journalism and information, thought and reflection on art, his discourse links all his work around the concept of “post-truth”. Narration as part of a game with what is rational in an essay provoked by thought and emotion, this whole process leads him to the extreme. For Pepe Gimeno this entire professional process is the consequence of a project involving investigation, curiosity and knowledge: experiences that he extrapolates, in turn, to design. This procedure brings together art and design.

‘Procés Visual’ pays special attention to the aspect of innovation that connects the world of failures and creativity, with the digital world. For this reason, we propose to present 3D images of the falla, as well as to project a piece of video art on the process of creating the falla, and a space for citizen interaction for all audiences.

During the exhibition period, a meeting will be organized between the Fallas artist Alejandro Santaeulalia and Dulk, Antonio Segura Donat, around the specific creative process, R+D+i fallas and urban art.

EXHIBITION | «Mans i màquines. Apunts ceràmics»

06 APRIL-31 MAY

Throughout its history, the ceramics industry has always understood that form and function are complementary in its products. In some way, art and ceramic design are close but they occupy parallel positions (that is, they may take their inspiration from similar sources, but they follow their routes individually). In this exhibition we want to establish the points at which the distance between these parallel lines is narrowed until it appears that they have become symbols of the same language.

In the light of all the above, the planned exhibition will show ceramic tiles from the Museu del Taulell Manolo Safont in Onda (including both anonymous pieces and others signed by 20th century artists) which will be compared with works (especially painting, but also sculpture and even artistic ceramics) contributed by the Museums of Vilafamés and L’Alcora.
