Product design LZF was born among friends, on the shores of the Mediterranean, that inexhaustible source of light, calm and joy."

Valencian company of contemporary artisans specialized in the manufacture of lamps made by hand in wood veneer. Its main characteristic is the ability to combine traditional knowledge, hand-made by expert craftsmen, with technology and research in all its works.

LZF loves details, imperfections, discovery and the exquisite transformation that light produces in wood, they build lamps like someone who creates dresses, polishes jewelry or models sculptures. Their collections have their own identity, are diverse and invite the client to identify with the model they need. They love shapes, colors, rhythms, noble materials, beauty, light and enjoy our surroundings.

LZF has researched and patented a process called Timberlite to build, eliminating polluting processes and integrating sustainable processes.

Big Bird encapsulates LZF’s penchant for dreaming big and re-engineering the concept of what a lamp can be.

Big Bird was first imagined by the designer/artist Isidro Ferrer, and is made in collaboration with master artisan Manolo Martin. The life-size Big Bird is built with a traditional craft technique used by Fallas artisans, known as vareta technique. The sculpture is made in a local atelier before being sent to the LZF factory for illumination. Creating a life-size fixture like Big Bird is a multi-step process that begins with a miniature model for shape and scale.

At the atelier, the size and shape of Big Bird are framed out with paper, and then wood.

The head, body and wings are independently handcrafted by a talented team of local artisans.

Once all the pieces are attached and allowed to dry they are taken to the LZF. At the factory, the LZF team inserts the electrical components and affixes the glowing globe that will bring Big Bird to life.

Hovering hummingbird-like, with its fine wooden plumage, pointed beak, and hanging globe, Big Bird is an accomplished feat of wood craftsmanship, and a remarkable contemporary sculpture that dramatically illuminates a large space.
