Julia Buruleva is a conceptual photographer and art director. Born in Russia and based in Barcelona. Her artist style combines photography, installation, performance.

She creates her own theatre during the shoots full of weird but visually strong aesthetics. The way she plays with scenery, objects, light, decorations gives us the feeling of surrealism. Disco balls glint in sky blue mirrors. Rainbow figures recline against rugged landscapes. Bodies lie on top of stacked red chairs. Fruit, flowers and pollen cover faces. Her bright, bold and unusual images combine performance and installation – filled with a spirit of improvisation and play. Inspired by her surroundings, the photographer stops at nothing to reconstruct her dreams and fantasies. Through her images, reality crumbles and gives way to surrealist whims, provoked by the richness of her daily life. And out of her mind, come fanciful compositions in which the bodies – pulled straight out of nature – become extensions of the environment. Without ever seeking to sexualize nudity, Julia Buruleva captures it to bring an additional abstraction, a greater absurdity to her extravagant paintings instead. A playful dive into an irresistibly inconceivable world.

Julia Buruleva realizes her art, her concept of photography through a process that is only apparently articulated because it is rich in cultural references, especially pictorial, and daily life. The result, on the other hand, is sharp, clear. Sensual and expertly conceived. A winning mix that leads her to become one of the most important conceptual photographers of the moment.
