The HATS collection is a series of fashion photographs with the hat as the main element mixed with digital painting. What unites them is the simplicity and the overwhelming elegance of the photos, contrasting with the painting in very very vivid colors of the background and brushstrokes above the models, suggesting the fusion with the background.
The HATS collection begins when I see some photographs of the photographer Emilio Tini that I love. I talk to him and he leaves me to work with them. They are female models dressed in beautiful hats and little else. The important thing about the look are the hats and the subtle and delicate pose of the models. In the photos you can’t even see the whole face, just the lips or the profile to communicate so much beauty. The lighting is sublime.
Another photographer that let me work with some of his images in this serie is Enrique Fantova.
Once I have them, I practice with them with digital painting, and only with that. I’ve wanted to work like this for a long time, without adding more elements, just communicating with the paint: different brushes, squiggles, splatters, double brushes, with texture … Mixing the background with the model.
As they are black and white photos, I mix them with very vivid colors and the contrast is beautiful. They also all have the same color range so that they can be displayed or framed together. The colors I have used are orange, blue (sometimes almost purple) and black, the latter is almost always present in my work because I love it.
