Product Design<\/span><\/span> | <\/strong>Carilyn de la Vega e Carlos P\u00e9rez, sono designer cubani che hanno creato la meravigliosa collezione di mobili Guajiro. Con questo progetto cercano di rivalutare la tradizione del basket cubano attraverso un approccio progettuale contemporaneo.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Guajiro collection is inspired by the hats of Cuban peasants (guajiros). They work on farms in the sun all day. For this reason, they use this typical hat as protection. In addition, this garment goes beyond the purely indigenous and has become one of the most popular craft traditions in Cuba: the basket.<\/span><\/p>\n

En Cuba, basket weaving is mainly produced in rural areas. It is often developed by all family members and is inherited from one generation to the next. The aim of this project is therefore to promote the Cuban tradition of basket weaving by combining ancient craft techniques with a contemporary approach. The Guajiro collection offers indigenous artisans an interesting opportunity to apply their inherited know-how to a new aesthetic. To this end, the designers are working with the artisan community of \"El Malec\u00f3n sin Agua\", located on the outskirts of Havana. With over 20 years of experience, they specialize in weaving guaniqui, a vine that grows wild in the Cuban forest.<\/span><\/p>\n

The furniture collection includes a low table, a sofa, a stool and a floor lamp. Each product alludes to a farmer's hat that tells a particular story. Some of them combine functions such as supporting lighting or containing lighting.<\/span><\/p>\n

The low table is the centerpiece of the collection and recreates a common anecdote: after a day's work, guajiros often return home and place their hats on the table as a metaphor for the beginning of the rest. The table concept explores this particular moment, which is reinterpreted with an unexpected fictional meaning: during the day the hat functions as an energy reserve, and during the night it releases this energy as light.<\/span><\/p>\n
